Carmenta is proud to announce the release of Carmenta Engine for Android

Carmenta Engine for Android is the full, feature-rich Carmenta Engine GIS solution in a version suitable for the Android operating system. It contains components and tools that enable software developers to rapidly add dynamic map displays and other geospatial functions to a wide range of mission critical mobile applications.

Johan Holmqvist, Vice President Product Marketing at Carmenta says, “This is a very exciting product release that will support our customers' mobile initiatives. We have spent considerable time, together with our customers, in order to optimise the most important features from a mobility aspect, while safeguarding the full range of capabilities that are available in our core product Carmenta Engine.”

*Key benefits*

* *High performance and efficient battery usage*. Thanks to a highly optimised low-level core, a hardware accelerated map rendering pipeline and multi-core execution, applications using Carmenta Engine for Android are both responsive and battery efficient.

* *Efficient use of resources*. The modular design of Carmenta Engine ensures that the Android version has a low memory footprint and very fast start-up time.

* *Offline or online maps*. By using Carmenta Engine, developers gain full flexibility in how their Android applications read maps. It is possible to build everything from always-connected systems which retrieve maps from OGC compliant servers, such as Carmenta Server, to disconnected systems which are preloaded with battery efficient map packages.

Carmenta wins contract to build a new advanced Rescue Coordination System for the Swedish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC).

The Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) is the responsible authority for Maritime and Aeronautical Search and Rescue (SAR) services in Sweden and the Swedish JRCC is responsible for coordination of the SAR missions within SMA.

The new system will be designed to coordinate complex SAR missions, which will require close cooperation between Carmenta and JRCC staff during the development process. The system will conform to international maritime standards and include advanced functions for decision support. The system will have a rich set of GIS features and will communicate with several external systems, including the Swedish system for 112 emergency calls managed by SOS Alarm.

The new JRCC application will be based entirely on Carmenta’s platform for GIS and Command & Control and will be delivered for operation in last quarter of 2014.

Gunnar Storm, in charge of business development at Carmenta says, “This contract strengthens our position in the public safety sector and confirms our ability to deliver advanced GIS based solutions for mission critical purposes.”

PRESSRELEASE: Carmenta acquires command and control application platform

Carmenta a world leader in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) expands its product portfolio by acquiring CoordCom – a market leading platform for command and control applications. The acquisition strengthens Carmenta’s position as a supplier in the market for Emergency Response solutions.

Carmenta AB, headquartered in Gothenburg Sweden, has entered an agreement with Ericsson, the world-leading ICT provider of technology and services to telecom operators, to acquire Ericsson’s command and control application platform CoordCom.

In addition to the acquisition of the CoordCom application platform the two companies have entered a global partnership agreement allowing Ericsson to resell CoordCom as part of its services led Emergency Management offering to 112/911 emergency response agencies.

CoordCom, a feature rich command and control application, allows emergency response agencies to efficiently receive, analyze and dispatch 911/112 emergency calls from the public that require help by police, fire and rescue operations.

Björn Berndtsson, CEO of Carmenta says, “We are delighted to bring our long term strategic partnership with Ericsson to the next level. The CoordCom application allows us to complement our industry leading GIS product ResQMap with command and control application services. Our portfolio will be reinforced by the combination of these products and will ensure us to meet customer’s needs in a more efficient way.”

Paolo Colella, Vice President and Head of Consulting and Systems Integration at Ericsson says: “Having a partner that offers the combination of CoordCom and ResQMap in their portfolio allows us to provide complete Emergency Response solutions for our customers using the latest GIS technology. This mixture of product technology and systems integrations services is unique and gives a clear market advantage.”

Carmenta will acquire the application and added assets from Ericsson. In addition, some 30 CoordCom application professionals will join Carmenta in Q2, 2013.

The term GIS is used for systems designed to capture, store, manage, and present all types of geographical data. For emergency management GIS is essential in today’s Emergency Response solutions.
